David Goffin v Dasun Lajovic Head to Head

The pair have met once before in the 2015 Paris Masters, with Goffin winning easily in straight sets.

Goffin, Not Enjoying His Best Year

The world number 21 player Goffin is not enjoying his best year on tour to date, and is some way off the form that made him  a regular top ten player. His best result came in Marseille where he reached the semi-final, and he also has a quarter-final to his name on the Challenger tour in Phoenix.

On the other side of the ledger, there were first round defeats in Doha, Montpellier, and Indian Wells, whilst his progress in Miami was halted by Frances Tiafoe.

A good run at the Monte-Carlo Masters would be a welcome boost for his confidence, and he got his campaign here off to a good start by beating Argentine qualifier Guido Andreozzi easily enough on Monday.

The tournament is not even two rounds old and there have been a plethora of seeded players having been knocked out. Would Goffin be able to avoid meeting the same fate?

Lajovic, Equally Scratchy Form

The world number 48, Lajovic equally came into this tournament searching for his best form after an indifferent run of results in 2019.

His best showing of the year came in Doha where he reached the quarter-finals, but, since then, there has been little to write home about, with the exception of Miami where he defeated Kei Nishikori before going out in the third round.

His one previous tournament on clay this season, the Buenos Aires Open, was ended at the first attempt, so he will have been pleased to get off to a winning start here, beating Tunisia’s Malek Jaziri in the first round with no undue alarms.

Goffin v Lajovic Predictions & Tips

In this match between two out-of-form players, Goffin is the strong odds-on favourite at 1/3, whilst Lajovic is priced at 11/4. Goffin won the only previous match between these two men with ease, and should have too much for his Serbian opponent again.
