Grigor Dimitrov v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head

The two players have met only twice on the ATP Tour and the head to head record is tied at 1-1. What makes it even more interesting is that they last met in the 2017 Monte Carlo Masters and back then, it was Struff who clinched the surprising win in three sets.

Dimitrov’s Struggles with Form Continue

The season so far hasn’t been kind of Grigor Dimitrov. He started the year in the top 20 but courtesy of his poor showing on the tour, he is now the World No. 28.

The 2017 ATP Finals winner hasn’t been that active this season, mainly on account of his shoulder injury. His attempts to rebuild his ranking were constantly interrupted his ailment. As a result, he withdrew from many events like the Mexican Open and the Indian Wells Masters.

He started the year in the Brisbane International where he lost in the quarterfinal to Kei Nishikori. Then, he participated in the Australian Open where he was knocked out in the fourth round by Frances Tiafoe.

His last event was the Miami Open where he made it as far as the third round before falling to Jordan Thompson.

In Monte Carlo, he started his run with a straight-set win over Matteo Berrettini. The Bulgarian was a semifinalist here last season – his best run among all the major events. This time around, he will be hoping to go the distance.

Struff Enjoying his Run in Top 50

The season so far has been rather kind to the 28-year-old German. While he hasn’t been that consistent throughout, he has certainly had his moments.

For instance, Struff reached the semifinal in the ATP Auckland and later, reached the fourth round in the Indian Wells Open. In these two events, he delivered some interesting wins over the likes of Pablo Carreno Busta and Alexander Zverev.

Apart from these competitions, he mainly ended up losing in the early rounds. In Monte Carlo, however, he delivered a stunning upset right at the beginning by knocking out Denis Shapovalov in three demanding sets. That win marks one of the most impressive wins of his career.

Dimitrov v Struff Predictions & Tips

Struff lacks the experience needed to perform in these big tournaments. He has never reached the final on the ATP Tour before and is not among the strongest of the players. However, his opponent is a player who has been struggling with a shoulder injury and the consequent loss of form.

Having already defeated Shapovalov, he will certainly fancy his chances here to knock out Dimitrov.
