Cameron Norrie v Albert Ramos Vinolas Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players before this and Ramos-Vinolas won that one at the 2018 Davis Cup in four tight sets. They have never met elsewhere.

Norrie Hoping for Improved Clay Showing

It is evident that clay isn’t Norrie’s most preferred surface but there will be some confidence from the manner in which he made it to the third round of the Monte-Carlo Masters last week. There were wins against Adrian Mannarino and Marton Fucovics and while he would have thought he had a chance to make it through to the quarter-finals, he went down to Lorenzo Sonego in the third.

Earlier on clay, he had lost in the first round at Houston, second round in Rio and failed to make it to the main draw at the Buenos Aires Open.

What would have been upsetting for the Brit was his showing at the Sunshine Masters. Having come into the tournaments on the back of a semi-final place at Acapulco, Norrie crashed out in the first round at both, Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Masters and then followed it up with that opening loss at Houston.

Struggling Ramos-Vinolas Will Fancy His Chances

Having needed to qualify for the main draw of the Barcelona Open, the former world number 17 Ramos-Vinolas will hope to turn things around from how they have gone since the start of the clay-court swing. A third round appearance at Indian Wells and Miami should have been a good indicator of return to form but things have gone south since.

An opening bye followed by a second round exit at the Sophia Antipolis Challenger was followed by a first round exit at Marrakech. Needing to then qualify to make it to the main draw at Monte-Carlo, he lost in round one before finally make it through two qualifying wins to set up this meeting against Norrie.

The good news for the Spaniard is that clay is his favourite surface but his recent struggles might have caused a confidence issue. That said, he would fancy his chances against someone like Norrie who hasn’t done too well on the red dirt as compared to a clay-court specialist.

Norrie v Ramos Vinolas Tips & Predictions

It comes as no surprise that despite the parity in their rankings – Norrie is 45th to Ramos-Vinolas’ 83rd – the Spaniard is a bookmakers’ favourite to win this one. Unibet and 888Sport are both offering 11/20 for a Albert-Vinolas win as compared to William Hill’s 7/4 for Norrie to take this. We think the Spaniard should win it but there might be a three-setter in the offing here.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (betway)
