Petra Kvitova v Kiki Bertens Head to Head

The head to head tally between the two players is currently tied at 2-2, with Bertens winning their last two meetings.

Bertens handed Kvitova those two defeats last year, in the Rogers Cup and Cincinnati Open. They also met once in the clay swing last year. That match was the final of the Madrid Open and Kvitova won that one in a convincing three-set affair.

Kvitova in Her Element in Stuttgart

World No. 3 Petra Kvitova has been quite clinical in Stuttgart over the course of this last week. Starting as the second seed, she stormed past Greetje Minnen in the first round. Then exorcised some old demons against Anastasija Sevastova and defeated the Latvian 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

In that 90 minute affair, Kvitova won all the four break points and kept her first service win-rate at 75%.

Chasing her fifth title on clay, the Czech has had a promising run this season. With just two early-round losses, Kvitova has proven herself to be an efficient, clinical player on the tour. She already has two runner-up trophies this year – the Australian Open and WTA Dubai, and a singles title from Sydney.

Kvitova last played in Miami where she reached the semifinal.

Bertens, Looking Clinical as Usual

Bertens is one of those players who prefers the clay surface. After all, five of her eight singles titles came on this surface and is widely considered to be a strong opponent on clay.

The past week has been all about that. She started her bid for the maiden Stuttgart Open title in the first round against Anna-Lena Friedsam. Then, she solved the Belinda Bencic riddle in three sets to set up a quarterfinal clash with Angelique Kerber.

In a bellicose display of skill and passion, she downed the German No. 1 6-3, 6-4, in a little under 80 minutes.

As for her performance this year, it hasn’t been as great as that of Kvitova’s, but she still has her moments. For example, she won the title in St. Petersburg and later, reached the fourth round in the Indian Wells Open and Miami Masters. Her last showing was in Charleston where she lost in the third round.

Kvitova v Bertens Predictions & Tips

This is an evenly matched fixture that can very well go either way. Both the players have proven their ability in Stuttgart, with Bertens proving to be more convincing with her wins over Bencic and Kerber. At the same time, Kvitova has been in an exceptional form throughout this season.

This one is too close to call but we are in for a great match, nonetheless.

Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 4/5 (888Sport)
