Novak Djokovic v Taylor Fritz Head to Head

The two players met as recently as a few weeks back in the Monte-Carlo Masters. It was in the third round and Serbian dispatched Fritz with 6-3, 6-0.

Djokovic – A Two-Time Winner in Madrid

The Serbian cyborg won the Madrid Open back in 2011 and 2016. He is more than familiar with this turf and has started this tournament as one of the favourites to win.

However, given his recent form, it may be a bit tricky for Djokovic to go the distance. Ever since winning the Australian Open, he hasn’t been able to make it past the fourth round on the ATP Tour. In the Sunshine Doubles, he fell to Philipp Kohlschreiber and Roberto Bautista Agut respectively in Indian Wells and Miami.

Then, he played in Monte-Carlo where he lost to Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinal. Needless to mention, the No. 1 seed has lost his efficiency in recent weeks but is more than capable of getting it back in no time.

Last year, he had an elbow surgery following which, he returned to the tour, won two Grand Slams and two Masters to become World No. 1 again.

Fritz in With a Massive Upset!

Having made it to the main draw as a qualifier, Fritz began his campaign in Madrid with a win over Grigor Dimitrov. He defeated the Bulgarian 7-6(10), 7-6(4). The match went on for a little under two hours and saw Fritz maintain his first service win rate at 74% with 15 aces.

As for his best runs of the season, they came in Melbourne and Monte Carlo, where he reached the third round. Apart from that, he hasn’t had a run that really put him in the spotlight although, he did win the Challenger event in Newport Beach.

Djokovic v Fritz Predictions & Tips

Djokovic is not entirely invincible and if Fritz brings his A game with extreme concentration, he can prove to be a bit troubling for the Serb. He has already fallen to a couple of lowly-ranked players this season and Fritz can very well join that exclusive club.

Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match: 10/11 (888Sport)
