Halep Looking Confident in Madrid
The Romanian’s performance so far in Madrid has been pretty flawless. As a two-time Madrid Open champion, she is more than familiar with the turf and has put on a pretty good show so far.
Starting in the first round, she moved past Margarita Gasparyan 6-0, 6-4 and followed it with an equally clinical victory over Johanna Konta. She now faces Kuzmova, who isn’t really among the strongest players on the tour.
Halep is also in contention for the No. 1 ranking and so far, things are going well for her. She has a title to defend at the French Open and given her season so far, she will be keen to make a strong impression here. While the number 3 seed has been more or less consistent, she is yet to win a title.
She was a finalist in Doha and later, reached the semifinal in Miami.
Kuzmova’s Best Run on Clay
The 20-year-old Slovak began her clay season in the WTA Lugano, where she lost in the second round. Kuzmova also moved on to participate in Istanbul and Prague, but never went past the first round.
However, in Madrid, she has had a brilliant run so far, moving past the likes of Julia Goerges and Carla Suarez Navarro, without dropping a single set. These are two former top 10 players who have achieved a great so far, and Kuzmova defeated them with ease.
While she is yet to win a singles title in her career, she has won 14 titles on the ITF tour, four of which came on the clay surface.
Halep v Kuzmova Predictions & Tips
There is no doubt in the fact that Halep will start this match as the favourite to win. Kuzmova may certainly pose some problems for her, but given the Romanian’s massive experience and momentum, she should get this one rather comfortably.
