Novak Djokovic v Jeremy Chardy Head to Head

Djokovic and Chardy have played each other an astonishing 12 times. The Serb has won in all 12 meetings with their most recent encounter ending in a straight sets win for Djokovic.

Djokovic Seeks A First Title Since Melbourne

Shortly after capturing a record-breaking 7th Australian Open crown earlier in January, Novak Djokovic was tipped to sustain his dominance at the summit of Men’s tennis during the hard court season and beyond.

Instead, the World No.1 suffered very surprising defeats to the likes of Philipp Kohlschreiber at Indian Wells and Roberto Bautista Agut in Miami. He also crashed out at the Monte Carlo Masters to Daniil Medvedev in what was his only clay-court tournament prior to Madrid.

Despite his recent subpar performances, Djokovic arrived in Madrid this year in much better state than he was 12 months ago when he was struggling for form and had undergone elbow surgery. He was ranked 12th in the world at the time and dropped outside the top-20 after the clay-court season.

However, his comeback during the second half of last season was one of the most spectacular success stories in tennis history.

Djokovic celebrated his 250th week as World No.1 this week, and he will be optimistic in getting another win over Jeremy Chardy.

Can Chardy Post His First Win Over Djokovic?

Jeremy Chardy has played Novak Djokovic on 12 occasions, with this matchcup being one of the most one-sided in tennis history. The Frenchman has lost in all 12 meetings without winning a single set.

Chardy has won three matches on clay this year and remarkably all those victories were against natural clay-courters. He beat Pablo Carreno Busta in Estoril, and then upset Albert Ramos Vinolas and Diego Schwartzman in Madrid.

The World No.47 reached the semifinals in Brisbane in what remains his best result of 2019. Since then, he made the quarterfinals in Marseille, but his participation in the other events has been well below average.

Djokovic v Chardy Predictions & Tips

Djokovic has dominated the series and it is easier to see why. Chardy can neutralise the likes of Schwartzman and Ramos Vinolas with his delicate slice quite easily. However, the Serb is in a different league as compared to those players. A Djokovic win is a banker here, and it is matter of how many games will he drop in winning.

Tip: Djokovic to win in straight sets: 2/5 (888Sport)
