Naomi Osaka v Dominika Cibulkova Head to Head

Osaka currently holds a 3-0 lead over the Slovak, defeating her recently as last week in Madrid. They have also met twice in WTA Tokyo, where the top seed won comfortably.

Osaka Holds on to Her No. 1 Crown

Last week, Osaka lost to Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinal of the Madrid Open, leaving her No. 1 title in jeopardy. Simona Halep had a chance to take it away from her but her defeat in the final to Kiki Bertens prevented that from happening.

Now, Osaka needs to fight for her throne again and this time, she needs to reach the quarterfinal and beyond.

The current US Open champion has been in a brilliant form of late, reaching the semifinal in Stuttgart in addition to her good performance in Madrid. She certainly appears to be on the right track to perform well in the French Open although, there is still room for improvement.

Osaka has had her share of defeats this year and interestingly, a majority of them came against top players like Bencic and Anett Kontaveit.

Cibulkova’s Massive Struggles with Form

The 2016 WTA Finals champion has had a very disappointing spell so far this year. She has won just three matches so far.

In fact, Cibulkova hasn’t won an opening match on the tour since the WTA Dubai, where she lost in the second round to Karolina Pliskova. Since then, she has featured in Indian Wells, Miami, and Madrid but without any success.

While the Slovak has never won a title on clay, she has made it to the final on four occasions. She was a runner-up in Madrid back in 2016 and last year, she also reached the final in Strasbourg.

Naomi Osaka v Dominika Cibulkova Predictions & Tips

It is hard to imagine Cibulkova suddenly gaining the momentum and confidence to defeat an in-form player like Osaka. Expect the same result as we saw last week in Madrid unless the Japanese incurs a massive drop in form.

Tip: Osaka to win 2-0: 21/20 (888Sport)
