Daniil Medvedev v Nick Kyrgios Head to Head

The two players have never met on the ATP tour.

Medvedev Looks to Continue Strong Year After Early Madrid Loss

Daniil Medvedev has had a breakthrough last 18 months, exhibiting reason to believe he has the potential to be a future grand slam winner. Winning four ATP titles in this time, as well as having deep runs at several of the other ATP tournaments, Medvedev is one not to count out now on any surface.

A member of the elusive ‘Next Gen’, Medvedev’s most notable recent win was against Novak Djokovic at the Monte Carlo ATP Masters 1000. Medvedev’s clay court season was off to a promising start, but has since encountered a disappointing early loss last week in Madrid. With a solid all court game, a powerful forehand, and good ground strokes on both wings, Medvedev will look to redeem himself in Rome ahead of the French Open at the end of the month.

Kyrgios Hopes to Get Momentum on Clay

If there ever was a player one does not know what to expect from before a match or tournament, there would be no one more unpredictable than Nick Kyrgios. An extremely gifted and talented player, with the ability to beat any and all on the tour, Nick Kyrgios is also probably the most temperamental on the tour.

With impressive and convincing victories on the tour against Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic, Kyrgios has also had humiliating losses that were least expected. 2019 has been similar for him with injuries and losses and then an impressive win at the Mexico Open in Acapulco beating Rafael Nadal and Alexnader Zverev among others.

With no apparent weakness in his game, Kyrgios is not one that can be underestimated by any opponent and Medvedev will be well aware of that. Kyrgios’s game though more suited to the faster surface is one that can send any opponent into a corner with the aggressive power and variety. His 2019 clay season has been a non-starter for the most part and he will want to get some momentum ahead of the French Open.

Daniil Medvedev v Nick Kyrgios Predictions & Tips

Medvedev has been one of the most consistent players this year and has gone from strength to strength in the last 12-18 months. After an early loss in Madrid, he will be looking to redeem his clay court season, with the French Open only two weeks away.

Although clay is not his favored surface, one never knows what to expect from Kyrgios. Having been considerably less consistent than Medvedev, the odds are stacked heavily against Kyrgios. Always expect the unexpected from Kyrgios, but given Medvedev’s all round game and comfort on clay, Medvedev should win this in straight sets.

Tip: Medvedev to win in straight sets: 23/20 (888Sport)
