Alexander Zverev v Matteo Berrettini Head to Head

The two men have played each once before, in the same tournament in Rome and at the same stage last year. On that occasion Zverev won in straight sets.

Zverev Has Had Disappointing 2019 To Date

Despite reaching the final in Acapulco, Zverev has had a very indifferent year, and his form on the European clay court season has been patchy.

Early losses in Casablanca and Monte Carlo then saw him fail to defend his title in Munich, where he was beaten by Christian Garin, and again in Madrid, where he was beaten in the quarter-finals by Stefanos Tsitsipas.

As a result of failing to defend the ranking points he earned in those events last year, he has now slipped below Roger Federer in the world rankings, and needs a good run in a Masters Event to try to get his season back on track.

The good news for Zverev is he showed some spark last week at the Madrid Masters before the Tsitsipas loss and while he was still not at his best, he looked to have done enough to have given himself some hope of a turnaround.

Berrettini, Enjoying Best Year of His Career

By contrast, Berrettini is enjoying the best year of his career. Unlike Zverev, he has won a senior ATP title this year, triumphing in the Hungarian Open in April.

That came on top of the Challenger title he won in with the Arizona Tennis Classic in March. On top of that he also reached the final in Munich before going down to Chilean Garin.

The 23-year-old Italian is now standing at 31 in the world rankings, his highest ever placing, and will not be intimidated by Zverev one little bit.

Zverev v Berrettini Predictions & Tips

Zverev is favourite to win the match at 8/13 on, whilst Berrettini is priced at 8/5. A year ago Zverev beat the Italian easily at this same stage of the tournament, but, in terms of form, the two men have been on different trajectories this year. The German can still be expected to win, but he might have to fight a lot harder for the victory this time round.

Tip: Zverev to win in three sets: 3/1 (888Sport)
