Johanna Konta v Sloane Stephens Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, in Brisbane earlier this year, with Konta winning their encounter in straight sets.

Konta Looking to Extend Her Run over Stephens

Konta is looking to extend that winning run over Stephens, after safely negotiating her first round match with Alison Riske of the United States. That match saw her save all six break points she faced, and she also won 77% of points behind her first service.

She will need to enjoy a similar level of performance if she is going to beat Stephens on Wednesday.

The American will be the second top ten player she has faced at this stage of a tournament in a week. Having lost to Simona Halep in Madrid, she will be keen to avoid a repeat of that here, and will, instead, be looking to the form that earned her a first WTA final appearance on clay at the start of this month.

Stephens Hoping to Build on Madrid

Stephens enjoyed her best run of the year so far last week in Madrid, where she progressed to the semi-finals before being downed by the eventual winner Kiki Bertens. Apart from that her best result was a quarter-final appearance in Charleston.

The 26-year old has got some form on clay – she reached the final at Roland Garros last year, and considers it her favourite surface, although all her best results have come on hard court surfaces which better suit her all-power game.

Konta v Stephens Predictions & Tips

Stephens is favourite to win the match at 8/13 on, whilst Konta is priced at 6/4. Stephens is ranked 33 places than Konta in the world, but has not been in good form this year, and was defeated by Konta in the only previous encounter between the two. This might be a close match and could well go to a third set.

Tip: Stephens to win in three sets: 16/5 (888Sport)
