Rafael Nadal v Stefanos Tsitsipas Head to Head
This will be the fifth match between Rafa and Stefanos, oddly enough the fifth one in just 13 months and each previous time they met was also in the finals or semifinals of a tournament.
Nadal has the upper hand at the moment, winning last year in the ATP Barcelona finals 6-1, 6-2, Toronto Masters finals 6-2, 7-6 and in this year’s Australian Open semifinals 6-2, 6-4, 6-0.
Tsitsipas got his only win over Rafa just a week ago, in the Madrid Masters semifinals, where it was 6-4, 2-6 and 6-3 for the Greek youngster.
Nadal On Fire At The Moment
After having a 9-3 start to this clay season and losing in three consecutive semifinals, Nadal looked much better here in Rome, losing a total of six games in his three matches and playing his best tennis in a while.
He has just demolished Chardy and Basilashvili on Thursday, allowing each to win a game in their matches while on Friday Verdasco had a bit better treatment as he managed to snatch four games in the opening set and got bagelled in the second one.
Tsitsipas Having His Best Season On The Tour
It’s only May and Tsitsipas has already managed to win 30 matches since the year started (30-12) and is cruising towards breaking his own record for most wins in a year (57 and 58 in the previous two years).
He plays with such ease and confidence that it seems like he’s destined to be the top player in the world once Roger, Novak and Rafa retire.
Currently, he’s only 75 points behind the fifth-ranked Zverev and should take over his place in the next few weeks.

Nadal is in amazing form at the moment but if anyone can make him problems that’s Tsitsipas, with his deep balls and aggressive style of play, just as he did last Saturday in Madrid. This is why one can expect a great and interesting match from these two and more than 21 games in the end.
