Karolina Pliskova v Johanna Konta Head to Head
The two ladies have met six times on the tour and not so surprisingly, Pliskova leads Konta by 5-1. They last met in the 2017 WTA Eastbourne, where Pliskova won on the back of a walkover.
They have met only once on the clay surface and back then, it was the Czech who came out as the victor.
Konta Finds Her Rhythm in Rome
After struggling with her form for most of 2018, former World No. 4 is back to her winning ways this season. Her performance has been undoubtedly one of the best ones in recent times.
Konta has defeated many formidable names in Rome, starting with Alison Riske. Then, on manic Thursday, she defeated Sloane Stephens and Venus Williams in a matter of few hours to reach her first major quarterfinal on the tour since the Miami Open.
On Friday, Konta celebrated her 28th birthday with a three-set win over the Czech teenager Marketa Vondrousova. That win propelled her to her first semifinal at Foro Italico. But her best match of the tournament came in the semi when she knocked out the Madrid Open winner, the clay specialist Kiki Bertens.
Losing the first set, Konta staged a comeback and won the match 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.
With that sensational run, Johanna Konta’s ranking is sure to get a boost. Moreover, with the French Open right around the corner, she has now got the much-needed confidence and excel. A couple of weeks back, she was also the runner-up in WTA Rabat.
Pliskova Back in Form
Pliskova had a brilliant run on the hard courts this season – she reached the semifinal in Melbourne, the quarterfinal in Dubai and Indian Wells, and most recently, the final in Miami.
But once the clay season started, her form took a massive nosedive with early exits in Madrid and Stuttgart.
However, in Rome, she found her groove. Starting in the second round, she defeated Ajla Tomljanovic, Sofia Kenin, Victoria Azarenka, and Maria Sakkari to reach the final. This is also her first final on the clay since last year’s Stuttgart Open.
Her match against Sakkari was particularly incredible as she ended the Greek’s formidable run with 6-4, 6-4.
Pliskova v Konta Predictions & Tips
This is an evenly matched fixture that can very well go either way. On one hand, Pliskova is experienced in terms of winning on big occasions while Konta is looking particularly determined to make amends for her recent loss in form.
It wouldn’t be surprising if this match goes to three sets.
