Aryna Sabalenka v Dominika Cibulkova Head to Head
The two players have met only once on the tour, in the 2018 WTA Wuhan Open. The Belarusian won that match in straight sets.
Sabalenka Finally Gets Some Traction
Sabalenka, who has been awarded the 11th seed for the tournament, started the year by winning the Shenzhen Open. Since then, however, she hasn’t done a great deal to truly make a major dent on the WTA Tour.
She did enough to cross the early rounds but not quite enough to go the distance. The Belarusian reached the round of 16 in Melbourne, Dubai, and Indian Wells. In the Madrid Open and WTA Rome, she lost her opening games in a rather shocking manner to Svetlana Kuznetsova and Alize Cornet respectively.
In a bid to get some momentum before heading to Paris, the 21-year-old last played in WTA Strasbourg where she reached the semifinal. She started the tournament as the number two seed and eventually fell to Dayana Yastremska.
Cibulkova – A Veteran Going Through a Rough Patch
At one point in time, Cibulkova used to be one of the most formidable players on the WTA Tour. She won the 2016 WTA Finals – in the very same year, she reached the final in Madrid and Wuhan.
This season, however, it has been an entirely different story for the Slovakian. Her win-loss record at the moment stands at 4-8, with two of those four victories coming in the Fed Cup.
Cibulkova hasn’t made it past the second round this season, and there have been only three instances where she managed to reach this stage. She last played in Rome where she lost to Naomi Osaka.
Sabalenka v Cibulkova Predictions & Tips
This is one fixture that can very well go either way. While Sabalenka will start this match as the odds-on favourite, she hasn’t been that clinical on clay on the whole. Cibulkova has got the skills and experience to beat the Belarusian but she will need to come prepared with a focussed mind and a strong will to win.
Expect this to be an entertaining affair.
