Muguruza Seeking to Reinvent Herself
The Roland Garros is a special tournament for Muguruza, given that she won the event back in 2016 and last year, she made it to the semifinal here. That was, in fact, one of her better performances in the 2018 season considering her recent struggles with the form.
This season, Muguruza has delivered a series of mixed results on the tour albeit, it is still an improvement. She reached the quarterfinal in WTA Hua Hin and Indian Wells and later won the Monterrey Open. The 2017 Wimbledon champion didn’t enjoy that good of a run on the clay.
In Madrid, she lost her opening match to Petra Martic while in Rome, she was knocked out by Victoria Azarenka in the third round. On the whole, she has lost nine matches this season and has won only 18.
As for her form in Paris, she started on a shaky note with a three-set win over Taylor Townsend. Muguruza had to battle for two hours and stage a comeback to take the match 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. While she doled out 37 winners, the Spaniard committed as many as 29 unforced errors.
Larsson in With a Good Win
Larsson, who is having a season to forget at the moment, started her run in this year’s Roland Garros with a straight-set win over Magdalena Rybarikova.
That win was Larsson’s third one of the season, with the other two coming in the first round of the Australian Open and WTA Nurnberg. Apart from that World No. 172, has lost all of her first round fixtures on the tour this season.
It is certainly disappointing and a bit shocking to see her struggle with the form to this extent.
Muguruza v Larsson Predictions & Tips
There is no doubt in the fact that Muguruza will start this match as the favourite to win. Even though she hasn’t been in that great of a form of late, it is hard to imagine her falling to someone so out of form like Larsson.
This may be stretched to three sets but Muguruza should ultimately get the win.
