Johanna Konta v Marketa Vondrousova Head to Head

This being their third meeting on the WTA Tour, the head to head tally is currently tied at 1-1. They last met as recently as the quarterfinal of the Italian Open, where Konta won in three sets.

A Phenomenal Rise for Konta

In what has been one of the most surprising revivals on the WTA Tour, Johanna Konta has truly outperformed the rest with some sensational tennis. Of the three clay events she has played in so far, the 28-year-old has reached the final in two of those. Now, she is on the verge of repeating that feat once again.

This is definitely an astounding feat by the Nottingham Open runner-up, who at the start of the season was struggling a lot with her form.

In Rome, she defeated Sloane Stephens, Venus Williams, and Kiki Bertens before falling to Karolina Pliskova.

Konta repeated the same feat in Paris too, this time with far more finesse. She made it to the semifinal without dropping a single set. Moreover, the number 26 seed never lost more than four games in any of her matches. Of course, she also benefitted from the early exits of Belinda Bencic and Kiki Bertens.

She met Stephens in the semifinal and dispatched her 6-1, 6-4. Surprisingly, in her entire career, Konta never managed to make it past the first round in the Roland Garros.

Vondrousova, a Tennis Prodigy in the Making

Around the same time last year, Vondrousova was ranked somewhere in the late 60s with not a lot of accomplishments to her name. This season, she has made a name for herself with two runner-up feats in the WTA Budapest and Turkey.

She holds a win-loss record of 22-6 and reached the quarterfinal in Indian Wells, Miami, and the Italian Open. In these three big competitions, she defeated the likes of Daria Kasatkina, Simona Halep, and Elise Mertens. Courtesy of that, she also reached her career-best singles ranking as World No. 38.

With her remarkable left forehand, Vondrousova has troubled a lot of players in Paris. And just Konta, she too made it to the semifinal without losing a set. Just like her British adversary, she was placed in a comparatively easy bracket.

Vondrousova started with easy wins over Yafan Wang and Anastasia Potapova. Following that, she defeated the veteran Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro and built on it with a clinical win over Anastasija Sevastova. In the quarterfinal, she met the in-form Croat Petra Martic and in a brilliant fashion, knocked her out with 7-6(1), 7-5.

The young Czech is known to perform well on clay; on the ITF circuit, five of her seven titles came on this very surface.
