Kiki Bertens v Yulia Putintseva Head to Head

Bertens and Putintseva have met six times on tour and it is the Dutch powerhouse who has a dominant record in the series (5-1).

Bertens Threw Away Match Points In Den Bosch Final

Kiki Bertens missed out on a fantastic opportunity of claiming her maiden grass court title at the Libema Open in her home country a week ago. Bertens held five championship points in the final against Alison Riske but each time, she failed to get over the line and the American pulled off a stunning upset in three sets.

After her French Open campaign was derailed due to illness in the second, it was such a shame for the talented 27-year-old who had walked in to Paris as a genuine contender of winning the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen which was subsequently won by Ashleigh Barty.

The Dutchwoman though did not let that disappointment deter her grass court preparations. She swept past the field in Den Bosch where she did not drop a set en route to the final. She played lights out tennis in the opening set against Riske, but unfortunately for her, her level dipped massively especially in the second set to give the American a look in. For Bertens, it has still been a great start to the grass season and she will eye to have another deep run at Wimbledon this year.

Putintseva Is Not To Be Underestimated

Yulia Putintseva scored the biggest win of her career at the Nature Valley Classic in Birmingham last week when she upset the top seed Naomi Osaka in straight sets to claim her second Top 5 win of 2019.

The fiery Kazakh began the year with an outstanding win over Sloane Stephens in Sydney before attaining her best career result in a Premier Mandatory tournament when she reached the fourth round in Miami. That all led to a first career title in Nurnberg.

Putintseva explained how that title win gave her so much confidence, but she suffered a first round defeat at Roland Garros in her subsequent tournament. Her record on grass outside Wimbledon has been disastrous. She won on the surface for the first time on tour-level against Harriet Dart in Birmingham a week ago before going on to beat Osaka. Although she has played okay at the Championships (three second round appearances in four years), she is not familiar for her grass court prowess.

Bertens v Putintseva Predictions & Tips

Bertens has been widely regarded as clay-court specialist over the years, but those times are now long gone. After making the quarterfinals at Wimbledon last year, she is slowly making her mark on the lawns. Putintseva has not done anything of note on grass (apart from beating an out of sorts Osaka) and it would be a real shock if she can get a result here against the third seed who will want to erase the disappointment of losing the final in Den Bosch.

Tip: Bertens to win in straight sets: 3/4 (888Sport)
