Marin Cilic v Adrian Mannarino Rudd Head to Head

The two men have played each other twice before. Mannarino won their last meeting on hard courts in Japan in 2017 at the Tokyo Open, but Cilic won their previous encounter on grass, at the Queen’s Club in 2015.

Cilic Performs Well at Wimbledon

Cilic has a good record at Wimbledon, which explains why the All-England Club has decided to seed him higher than his current world ranking. Three times a quarter-finalist, he reached the final in 2017, only to come across Roger Federer at his best, the Swiss clinching the title in straight sets.

2019 has not been his best year on tour. After reaching the fourth round in Melbourne, he has since struggled. The Madrid Masters was the only event in that sequence where he won more than two matches in a row, and he was forced to bow out of that tournament with injury.

Aside from that, it has been a story of first and second round exits, something he will be anxious to avoid this time round.

Mannarino’s Breakthrough Win at Rosmalen

After 15 years as a pro, Mannarino has had to wait until this year before finally winning his first ATP singles title, the Rosmalen Grass Court Championship in the Netherlands at the start of June, when he defeated Jordan Thompson of Australia in the final.

That win not only helped move him back in to the top forty in the world but also underlined the fact that, unlike many French players, he enjoys playing on grass, having twice been the runner-up at the Antalya Open.

Last year he reached the fourth round, beating Daniil Medvedev and Christian Garin on the way, before losing in straight sets to Roger Federer.

Cilic v Mannarino Predictions & Tips

This is actually a match between two grass court specialists, and a hard one to call. Cilic is odds-on favourite with the bookmakers at 1/3, whilst Mannarino is 3/1, but the outcome is not as clear-cut as those odds might suggest. This could well be a close encounter and, if Cilic is to win, he is going to have to work hard for his victory.

Tip: Cilic to win in four sets: 3/1 (888Sport)
