Wozniacki Hoping for a Reprieve
At the start of 2019, the Dane was World No. 3 but amidst injuries and the subsequent drop in form, she is now ranked the 14th place.
The best she has done this season is reaching the final in Charleston. After that, the China Open winner lost back to back opening matches in Madrid, Rome, and the French Open. These defeats were rather shocking as they came against a bevy of unseeded, underdogs like Veronika Kudermetova and Danielle Collins.
Her last event was in Eastbourne where, as a defending champion, she fell to Aryna Sabalenka in the third round in three sets.
Despite her recent struggles with form, Wozniacki is the kind of the player who can very well come back and make a sizeable impact on the tour. She has a lot of experience and is a fierce competitor with the ability to hit some good shots.
Sorribes Tormo, with Some Rhythm
The 22-year-old Spaniard played in Nottingham and Mallorca over the last couple of weeks to prepare for the Wimbledon. In the first case, she lost in the second round while in Mallorca, she qualifier for the main draw before losing to Alize Cornet in the opener.
Nonetheless, she got to enjoy some success in the doubles half with Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez. Together, the duo reached the final before falling to the pairing of Kirsten Flipkens and Johanna Larsson.
Apart from this, Sorribes Tormo has had a fairly mundane season with a few good spells here and there. She was a semifinalist in the ITF event in Burnie and later reached the final in the 125K event in Bol, Croatia.
Wozniacki v Sorribes Tormo Predictions & Tips
Sorribes Tormo has played more matches this season than Wozniacki. She has more rhythm and momentum than the Dane although, she lacks the experience of playing in big events. Nonetheless, Wozniacki shouldn’t face a lot of difficulties here. She got some practice in Eastbourne last week and can very well fight her way through to the second round.
