Petra Kvitova v Kristina Mladenovic Head to Head

Kvitova is heading into this fixture with Mladenovic on the back of an insurmountable 7-1 lead. The Czech has won all of their last six meetings since 2014, including the one in Birmingham a few years ago.

They last met in Madrid a couple of weeks back, where Kvitova won 6-3, 7-6(5).

Kvitova Shakes off Injury Concerns

Just last weekend, there were speculations that Kvitova may not participate in the competition owing to her fitness levels. With a six-week layoff to recover from her injury, there was still a possibility that Kvitova wasn’t 100% fit for the tournament.

However, she quelled those concerns in a remarkable fashion by upsetting Ons Jabeur with 6-4, 6-2. In a match that lasted for an hour and 2 minutes, Kvitova played some remarkable tennis and to seal the win.

At the same time, her level wasn’t close enough to the one she had at the start of the year when she won two singles titles and dominated the tour with utmost consistency. Nonetheless, against an inexperienced player like Jabeur, that’s all she needed to win.

Kvitova injured her playing arm during the clay swing and took some time to recover from it. That win will certainly bolster her confidence although, as she progresses, she will need to step up her game. She still has a tricky draw ahead of her, with Amanda Anisimova, Johanna Konta, or Sloane Stephens possibly waiting for her.

Mladenovic, Seeking Some Inspiration from her Doubles Form

The 26-year-old Mladenovic is currently Doubles No. 1, thanks to her breakthrough performance with Timea Babos in the Australian Open and French Open. Reaching the final in both the women’s doubles, she managed to go the distance in Paris, thus cementing her position at the top.

But on the singles circuit, it has been an entirely different tale. While she has had bursts of good runs, Mladenovic never really managed to retain that form and consistency. For instance, she reached the quarterfinal in Rome as a qualifier after upsetting Ashleigh Barty and Caroline Garcia, but in Paris, she fell in the second round.

Similarly, she reached the quarterfinal in Nottingham but in Eastbourne the following week, she succumbed to Evgeniya Rodina in three sets.

In her opening game in London, the Frenchwoman faced difficulties against Vitalia Diatchenko. She had to fight for two hours and 25 minutes to get that much-needed win in three sets.

Kvitova v Mladenovic Predictions & Tips

Kvitova will begin as the favourite although, we can still expect her to play with some caution. As out of form as Mladenovic may seem to be, she can still pose some problems and potentially cause an upset here. This will be a good match to follow, that can very well go to three sets.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match. (888Sport)
