Novak Djokovic v Ugo Humbert Head to Head

The two players have never met on the ATP circuit, and Manic Monday at Wimbledon will be a clash between an all-time great and a Next Gen player earmarked to be a future Grand Slam winner.

Another Week Two For Novak, Looking at Slam #16

Defending champion and 16 time Grand Slam Winner Novak Djokovic has sailed through another opening week at Wimbledon, and is looking ready for another title run at a major. The Serb had relatively comfortable wins in his first two rounds against Philipp Kohlschreiber, and Denis Kudla, before a stern challenge in the third round from 22 year old Pole, Herbert Hurkacz

Hurkacz played some inspired tennis for the first two sets, matching Djokovic point for point in the second set, and being able to tie the match at 1 set apiece. Djokovic thereafter increased his level and played a solid next two sets, winning them 6-2,6-4.

Djokovic is a four time Wimbledon champion, and with a number of seeds in his half of the draw being eliminated, will fancy his chances at another Wimbledon final and possibly another Wimbledon title.

Best Slam Performance for Humbert So far

Frechman Ugo Humbert has had an impressive last 18 months on the circuit, with breaking into the top 100 last year, and moving to a career high ranking of 66 this summer and now making it to week two at Wimbledon. All of this and he has just turned 21 last week.

Tall and lanky, with a powerful serve and a good volley, the left hander who now lives in Luxembourg, has a game that is well suited to the grass. He won four ATP Challenger Titles in 2018 and late 2017, and has since looked every bit a player who would succeed on the main ATP circuit.

In his opening round match at Wimbledon, he came back from two sets to love down against French veteran Gael Monfils and was up a break in the decider, before Monfils retired. He continued to beat Spaniard Marcel Granollers in straight sets in round two, and then a confidence boosting straight set win against fellow Next Gen Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Novak Djokovic v Ugo Humbert Predictions & Tips

Humbert has had a good run at Wimbledon and at 6’ 2”, and being a natural volleyer, he has exhibited a game that naturally bodes well with the grass courts.

However, he is up against a player who is ranked number one in the world by a distance and has all that is needed to win against anyone on any surface under any conditions. Humbert will have his moments of brilliance in the match but none that Djokovic has not witnessed before or handled with ease.

A straight set win for Djokovic is on the cards, and so is another Wimbledon quarter-final appearance.

Tip: Djokovic to win in three sets: 8/11 (888Sport)
