Novak Djokovic v David Goffin Head to Head

The two players have met five times on the ATP tour, with Djokovic leading the head –to-head 5-1. They have never met on grass and Goffin’s only win was on the Monte Carlo clay at the ATP Masters 1000, in 2017, against a somewhat waning Djokovic.

Djokovic Eyeing Fifth Wimbledon Title

World number one Novak Djokovic has qualified for another Grand Slam quarter final, in his quest for a fifth Wimbledon title. Since his injury lay-off in 2017-2018, and indifferent form soon thereafter, Djokovic has come back strong to regain the world number one ranking and winning Wimbledon 2018, US Open 2018 and the Australian Open earlier this year.

Djokovic has moved through his draw smoothly, dropping only one set against Polish 22 year old Herbert Hurkacz, who provided a stern challenge to the Serb. Djokovic has also been aided by early defeats of the higher seeds in his section of the draw, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev. The Serb is yet to play against a seeded opponent.

Coming in as the favorite for the title, a fifth Wimbledon title will be a 16th Grand Slam trophy for Djokovic, inching him closer to Roger Federer’s record of 20 major titles.

Goffin on an Impressive Comeback

David Goffin was ranked 7th in the world after being a finalist at the ATP year end finals in London in 2017, a tournament where he beat both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

The last year and a half or so for Goffin has been a mix of recurring injuries, time off from the game and disappointing early losses at tournaments, resulting in him being ranked number 23 at the moment.

The Belgian is an offensive baseliner with strong groundstrokes off both wings, a good return of serve and a solid double handed backhand. He has also reached the round of 16 or better at all four majors.

Goffin is in the process of resurging his career post injuries in search of more consistent results.

He was a finalist at the ATP 500 grass court tournament at Halle, losing to Roger Federer. At Wimbledon, he won a marathon fiver setter against 11th seed Daniil Medvedev in the third round after trailing two sets to one. He also defeated Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco in the fourth round in four sets.

Novak Djokovic v David Goffin Predictions & Tips

Goffin is a solid all round player with good groundstrokes, immense grit and a counterpuncher. But, he is up against one of the greatest of all times on Center Court at Wimbledon. Djokovic is in prime form, well rested and hungry. Expect a straight sets win for the world number one.

Tip: Djokovic to win in three sets: 10/11 (888Sport)
