Rafael Nadal v Sam Querrey Head to Head

The two players have met five times on the ATP tour, with Nadal leading the head-to head 4-1. Their last meeting was at the Mexican Open in Acapulco in 2017, where Querrey beat Nadal in straight sets to win the title. They have never met on grass, with all their meetings being on clay or hard court. This match has the potential to be the most evenly matched men’s quarter final at this year’s Wimbledon.

Eighth Consecutive Grand Slam Quarter-Final for Nadal

World number two Rafael Nadal began his Wimbledon campaign, with a convincing win against Japanese Yuichi Sugita in straight sets before running into a mouth-watering second round matchup against Aussie Nick Kyrgios. In a closely fought and very entertaining ‘grudge match’ on Center Court, Nadal came through in four sets, winning the last two in tiebreakers.

The Spaniard has risen in confidence and belief since and has looked in ominous form, with two very convincing straight set wins against French veteran Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and Portugal’s Joao Sousa.

Nadal is a two time Wimbledon champion and comes to Wimbledon without playing any of the warm-up tournaments on grass, at the back of an exhausting and successful clay court season, which saw him winning the French Open for a record twelfth time.

The Spaniard is eyeing winning the back-to-back duo of the French Open and Wimbledon for a third time in his career.

Querrey Looking at Career Resurgence at Wimbledon

31-year-old American big server Sam Querrey was ranked world number 10 in early 2018, before a string of injuries resulted in time off from the tour, indifferent form upon return, and a drop in the ATP rankings.

Querrey defeated world number one Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon in 2017, and Andy Murray at Wimbledon in 2018 respectively. He was a Wimbledon semi-finalist in 2017 losing to Marin Cilic, and made the US Open quarter-finals the same year, losing to Kevin Anderson.

The American returned to the tour this summer and is currently ranked number 66 in the world. He was a finalist at the Eastbourne ATP 250, the week before Wimbledon. Unseeded at Wimbledon, he was off to a flying start defeating French Open finalist and world number four Dominic Thiem in the first round. He has since moved through the draw comfortably with his big serve and powerful game well suited to the grass courts aiding him well.

Rafael Nadal v Sam Querrey Predictions & Tips

Nadal has been in prime form at Wimbledon, increasing in confidence with every win since beating Nick Kyrgios in a closely contested second round match. On the other hand, Querrey has made a strong comeback on the grass after being out with injury and is very comfortable on the grass-courts and has done well here in the past.

Querrey will have to be at his serving best, to make an impact in this match, and yet Nadal may have answers for all that Querrey poses. A good match on the cards, with Nadal expected to win in four well-fought sets.

Tip: Nadal to win in four sets: 2/1 (888Sport)
