Alize Cornet v Fiona Ferro Head to Head

The two players have never met before on the WTA Tour.

Cornet with a Defining Run in Lausanne

Former French No. 1 Alize Cornet will be thrilled with her performance in the Ladies Open Lausanne over the last week. She has put up quite a performance, certainly her best one in quite some time!

Coincidentally, her last singles final match took place in the Switzerland itself, but in the WTA Gstaad 2018. Back then, she won the title – her first one since 2016 – defeating Mandy Minella in the final.

As for this time around, she had a very comfortable run, starting with a couple of straight set victories over Martina Trevisan and Jasmine Paolini. In the quarterfinal, she ran into some problems against the Russian prodigy Natalia Vikhlyantseva, where Cornet had to fight for three sets before clinching the victory finally.

In the semis, she met the young German Tamara Korpatsch and dispatched her in straight sets. Cornet also benefited from being one of the most experienced players in the field, especially after the early exits of Timea Bacsinszky and Julia Goerges.

With a win-loss record of just 16-14 as of Wimbledon, there haven’t been that many instances this season where Cornet put up such a remarkable show. Apart from her quarterfinal run in Eastbourne and the semifinal feat in Hobart, her most of the season went by without any discernible runs.

Ferro Looking to Make a Dent

Currently ranked World No. 98, Ferro has got herself quite an opportunity to clinch the first singles title of her career and make a name for herself. So far, she is definitely on track and stands in her way is an experienced player with some skills to make life difficult for her.

But at the same time, Ferro has already defeated many experienced guns in Lausanne. Starting with Mona Barthel, she knocked out the number four seed Mihaela Buzarnescu and Samantha Stosur. Her victory over Stosur was particularly impressive, as she dispatched the veteran Aussie with 6-4, 6-2.

In the semis, Bernarda Pera and overcame the American in straight sets. As for Ferro’s run this season, she reached the quarterfinal in Strasbourg and the semifinal in Lugano. Needless to mention, Ferro’s rise to the scene has been in the making for quite some time and finally, we are here.

Cornet v Ferro Prediction and Tips

In this all-French final, Cornet will start as the favourite but Ferro has got the momentum to tackle her compatriot. Even though the 22-year-old has spent a lot of time attempting to move past the early rounds this season, she can still give Cornet a run for her money. She has been nothing but brilliant in Lausanne over the last week. All in all, a fun game to watch!

Tip: Over 16.5 games in the match. (888Sport)
