Patricia Maria Tig v Elena Rybakina Head to Head

This is their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Maria Tig with an Inspiring Performance

The 24-year-old Romanian has put up quite a performance in Bucharest, citing her motherhood as one of the main reasons for such a commendable run. After a plethora of injuries and the birth of her daughter that compelled Patricia to stay away from the tour for the whole of 2018, she returned to the scene this year with an absolute bang!

She started in the Bucharest Open as a qualifier and made it to the main draw without any difficulties. However, she was placed in a very tricky bracket with a litany of seeded players blocking her way to the final.

But an inspired Maria Tig was determined to reach her first final since the 2015 WTA Baku Cup. Starting with Anna Bondar, she moved on to dismantle the top seed Anastasija Sevastova, number eight seed Kristyna Pliskova, and finally, the sixth seed Laura Siegemund. The best part is she made it seem like a walk in the park.

What definitely helped the Romanian perform here is her stint in Cancun over the last few months. She has been practicing there since April, participating in a series of ITF events. Playing in ITF Cancun 4 through to 12, she managed to win two editions while reaching the final in the other two.

Rybakina with her Best Run

Just like Maria Tig, Elena Rybakina too has achieved a lot of fame on the ITF circuit this season. The 20-year-old Kazakh won three of them while reaching the final on one other instance. With a win-loss record of 36-13, in comparison to her opponent’s 25-7, Rybakina has certainly made an impression on the tour.

She had a relatively easy run in Bucharest as she reached the final without dropping a set. Standing in her way were a series of upcoming stars, including the number two seed Viktoria Kuzmova. In the semifinal, she defeated Martina Di Giuseppe in straight sets, with quite an amazing first service game.

Rybakina’s pedigree also lies in the fact she had a couple of good stints on the WTA circuit too. In the Libema Open as a qualifier, she made it all the way to the semifinal, defeating Alison Van Uytvanck and Kirsten Flipkens. Apart from that, she had a similar run in Istanbul too, where she made it to the quarters.

Maria Tig v Rybakina Prediction and Tips

Both the players are relatively young but they have been working relentlessly this season to make it to this point. They are in good form and are backed by many excellent wins. This is an evenly-matched fixture, to say the least and can very well go either way.

Tip: Over 16.5 games in the match. (888Sport)
