Caroline Garcia v Chloe Paquet Head to Head

Garcia holds a 3-0 lead over her compatriot, last defeating her in the WTA Strasbourg a few weeks back. All three of their meetings have taken place in French tournaments and Garcia, not so surprisingly, won all of them in straight sets.

Garcia Shakes off Jitters

Garcia had a tough start to her campaign in Jurmala as she started with a three-set win over Kristyna Pliskova. In a match that truly tested the spirit of the two players, Garcia came out on the top only by a slim margin. With the match going in three sets, the French No. 1 finally won the game 6-3, 6-7(8), 7-6(8).

It was a close call for Garcia, to say the least, who has been struggling with her form in the recent weeks. After a mediocre showing in Wimbledon and Lausanne most recently, where she succumbed to players ranked well below her in the opening rounds, she will be hoping for a solid run in Jurmala.

At the same time, she has had a couple of good weeks too. She was the runner-up in Strasbourg and later capped it with a solid win in Nottingham. These were among Garcia’s best runs of the season as she didn’t quite manage to get this start early in the year.

Paquet Looking to Shine

The 25-year-old Chloe Paquet has been working relentlessly on the circuit, playing in WTA and ITF events. With a win-loss record of 22-24 and a ranking in the late 150s, some will say that she still has a long way to go.

However, she has had her moments this season, including her semifinal run in Strasbourg. As for the other events, she spent most of her time attempting to move past the qualifiers or early rounds.

Following a defeat in the qualifiers in Lausanne, Paquet got a main draw ticket in Jurmala and she will be hoping to make the most of it. Having dispatched Basak Eraydin in the opener here, she will relish the opportunity to cause an upset.

Garcia v Paquet Prediction and Tips

On paper, at least, Caroline Garcia will start as the heavy favourite to win the match. She has the experience needed to win here and given her recent history over Paquet, it shouldn’t be a problem at all.

Tip: Under 16.5 games in the match. (888Sport)
