Dominic Thiem V Marton Fucsovics Head To Head

The two players have never met in a main draw of the ATP tour.

They have met twice, once in the Morocco Futures Challenger in 2012, and in the qualifying rounds of the 2014 Barcelona Open. Thiem won on both occasions in straight sets. Both have evolved immensely since.

Thiem Looking to Overcome Poor Wimbledon Showing

World number four from Austria, Dominic Thiem returned to his favorite surface at Hamburg after a disappointing Wimbledon. The Austrian looked to have erased any memories of the grass court season, and seemed just at home in his straight set victory over clay court specialist and veteran Pablo Cuevas.

Thiem has had a strong clay court season, winning the Barcelona ATP 500, being a semi-finalist at the Madrid ATP Masters 1000 defeating Roger Federer and a finalist at the French Open, after an epic semifinal victory against world number one Novak Djokovic.

The world number four comes to Hamburg as a strong favorite, along with Alexander Zverev, and despite the Wimbledon disappointment on grass, will favor his chances here again.

Strong Start To Tournament By Fucsovics

Hungarian Marton Fucsovics has been on the ATP circuit for about three years , but has gone from strength to strength in the last year . He reached a career high ranking of number 31 on the ATP circuit earlier this year and is currently ranked number 49.

Fucsovics won his first ATP title in 2018 at the Geneva Open and lost in the finals of the ATP 250 at Sofia earlier this year, to Daniil Medvedev. With a strong all round game, that has evolved in the last year, Fucsovics has proven to be a force to reckon with on the slower clay and faster hard courts this season.

The Hungarian began his Hamburg campaign with a very convincing 6-3,6-0 against native veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Thiem v Fucsovics Predictions & Tips

Both players are rather comfortable on this surface. Fucsovics has had a good year by his standards, and has posed challenges to several higher ranked players.

However, overall and especially on the clay, Thiem is definitely the better player of the two. Thiem has had a good clay court season and brushed off any Wimbledon disappointments with a clinical first round win here.

It is difficult to envision Fucsovics posing too many challenges to the Austrian on this surface, that he will have no answers for.

A good match on the cards, with Thiem winning in well-fought straight sets is the most likely outcome.

Tip: Thiem to win in straight sets: 5/6 (888Sport)
