Milos Raonic v Tim Smyczek Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and both times, Raonic has come out on top, without dropping a set. The first time they met was at the 2015 US Open in which Raonic won 6-4, 7-6, 6-1 before crushing him 6-1, 6-4 at Delray Beach in 2017.

2014 Winner Raonic Looks to Build on Decent Grass Swing

A quarter-finalist at Washington in 2017, Raonic had won the title at this competition in 2014. Interestingly, the Canadian’s last title came in Brisbane more than three years ago and he will be getting itchy to get his hands on a trophy soon enough.

Having been out of action for three months since his third round exit at Miami, Raonic has come back reasonably well. There was a semi-final at Stuttgart from where he had to withdraw because of a back injury, quarter-final at Queen’s Club and a fourth round appearance at Wimbledon.

The Wimbledon defeat would have been a draining experience though, having come back from two sets down and to have lost 8-6 in the final set to Guido Pella. Can he start off well at the US Open series in the lead-up to a Grand Slam in which he hasn’t done as well as the others?

Having won back to back qualifiers to make it to the main draw of the competition, Smyczek overcame Matt Ebden 6-4, 6-4 to make it to this second round. And that has been as far as he has ever been at this competition, having done so last year too before going down to Alexander Zverev.

What makes his task so much harder is his lack of form. Smyczek hasn’t won two matches in the main draw of any competition this season. In fact, this is the first time he has made the second round of an ATP competition this season.

This isn’t too much better than his last season where he had a win-loss record of 23-30 over all the competitions he played including Challengers.

Milos Raonic v Tim Smyczek Predictions & Tips

This looks to be as straightforward as it can get for Raonic, who should win it in straight sets.
