Dominic Thiem v Albert Ramos-Vinolas Head to Head
The two players have met twice on the ATP tour with each winning once. They first met in 2016 in the final eight of the Chengdu Open which was won by the Spaniard. Thiem won the next year when they met at the Rio Open, in the semi-finals.
Thiem Yet to Drop a Set This Week
French Open finalist Dominic Thiem is once again in the finals at Kitzbuhel, as he strives to become the first Austrian since Thomas Muster in 1993 to win the title.
Thiem is yet to drop a set thus far this week, as he had three straight set wins thus far. The Austrian was challenged in the second set by Pablo Andujar in the quarter-finals, as well as by Italian Lorenzo Sonego in the semis. However, he was able to come out on top and win without much trouble.
The world number four has had a strong clay court season, winning the Barcelona ATP 500 and was a finalist at the French Open, after an epic semifinal victory against world number one Novak Djokovic. He also won his first ATP Masters 1000 earlier this year, on the hard courts of Indian Wells.
Thiem has been a strong favorite throughout the tournament, but there is the pressure of home crowd expectations and him finally winning the elusive title at Kitzbuhel.
Ramos-Vinolas On a Good Run
Spanish veteran Albert Ramos-Vinolas has been on the ATP circuit for most of this decade and was ranked at a career high number 17 in 2017. He had a string of injuries in 2018 and is currently making a return to the tour, ranked number 69th in the world.
With a strong baseline game, and a heavy topspin forehand, Ramos-Vinolas has been a force to reckon with on clay. He is currently on a nine-match winning streak, including his title win at Gstaad last week.
After a strong clay season in 2017, the Spaniard dealt with a host of injuries that saw him out of the tour for long, returning playing ATP challenger tournaments.
He has had some confidence boosting victories this week against Marton Fucsovics, Jaime Munar, Jeremy Chardy and Casper Ruud.
