Borna Coric v Peter Gojowczyk Head to Head

The pair have never met before. This will be the first meeting between the world number fourteen, and the man ranked some 108 places below him.

Coric Has Had Recent Injury Struggles

Coric comes into this tournament with a doubt over his fitness, having been forced to miss Wimbledon with a knee injury. He has only played once since June, at his home event of the Croatia Open, but was beaten by the Italian Salvatore Caruso in straight sets.

That has checked the progress of the 22-year old who, earlier in the season, passed compatriot Marin Cilic in the rankings to become the highest ranked Croat player.

It also raises doubts about his ability to mount a sustained challenge at the US Open in a few weeks’ time, having reached the fourth round at Flushing Meadows last year.

Gojowczyk, A Surprise Semi-Finalist in Washington

Gojowczyk, who won his solitary ATP career title at the Moselle Open in France in 2017 had endured a poor year prior to the Washington Open last week, and had failed to win more than a single match in any tournament he had entered.

However, he completely defied that form and the odds to produce a string of upsets, beating Alex de Minaur, Milos Raonic, and Kyle Edmund, before his challenge was brought to an end by Daniil Medvedev.

Fatigue may count against him in Montreal, but he will come into the event in a far more positive frame of mind than he would have been if he had not competed in Washington.

Coric v Gojowczyk Predictions & Tips

Coric is the odds-on favourite to win this match at 3/8, whilst Gojowczyk is priced at 19/8. The Pole enjoyed an excellent run in Washington, but it is unlikely that lightening will strike twice, and Coric should win comfortably.

Tip: Coric to win in straight sets: 10/11 (888Sport)
