John Isner v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head

The pair have played each other six times before, with Isner leading their head to head battle by five matches to one. Lajovic won on the clay of Buenos Aires in 2016, but Isner has beaten his opponent on all surfaces, including their most recent meeting at the US Open last year.

Isner Progress Hampered by Injury

Runner-up in this event in 2013 to Rafael Nadal, Isner has had a mixed year, despite reaching the final in Miami where he was the defending champion.

Unfortunately, in the course of his subsequent defeat to Roger Federer, he suffered a stress fracture of his left foot, which forced him to miss the whole of the European clay court season, including the French Open at Roland Garros.

He returned to action at Wimbledon, but lacked match fitness, and was beaten by Mikhail Kukushkin in the second round. The big-serving American bounced back by winning his 15th ATP career title at Newport Beach, but, since then, has been playing indifferently, losing in the second round in his last three tournaments – Atlanta, Washington and, last week, in Montreal.

Lajovic Enjoying Greatest Success of Career to Date

Despite being a pro since 2007, it has taken until this year for Lajovic to enjoy his greatest successes on a tennis court. After beating Kei Nishikori in Miami, he went to Monte Carlo, and reached his first ATP singles final without dropping a single set, defeating David Goffin, Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev along the way.

Fabio Fognini, in the end, put an end to his hopes of winning in the Principality, but, last month, he finally clinched his maiden senior ATP title, beating Hungarian Attila Balazs to clinch the Croatia Open.

However, he is predominantly a clay court player, and tends to struggle on the harder, faster courts.

Isner v Lajovic Predictions & Tips

Isner is the overwhelming favourite to win this match at 3/11, whilst Lajovic is priced at 35/12. This is the sort of surface on which a player like Isner thrives, whereas his opponent much prefers for clay. That is reason enough to expect the American to win with ease.

Tip: Isner to win in straight sets: 2/5 (888Sport)
