Nick Kyrgios v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head

Kyrgios and Sonego have never met on the ATP tour and this will be their first ever meeting.

Kyrgios Hoping For Another Confidence Booster Ahead Of US Open

Australian Nick Kyrgios, hailed by some as being the most naturally gifted tennis player, after Roger Federer is probably the only tennis player that has made news for reasons as varied as he has.

Kyrgios looked very strong all week at the Citi Open in Washington D.C., where he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev among others to win the title. However, he followed it up with a first round loss to Kyle Edmund last week at the ATP Masters 1000 in Montreal.

This again further depicted that the Aussie has as much talent as he does unpredictable temperament, and going into every match, no one (including Kyrgios) knows which version of Kyrgios will show up on the given day.

Kyrgios was a finalist at Cincinnati in 2017 where he lost in the final to Grigor Dimitrov, and he will be looking for another deep run here this week, giving him a huge confidence booster ahead of the US Open.

Focussed Sonego Aiming to Move Up Further

Italian Lorenzo Sonego has been on the ATP circuit for two years and is still a new name getting accustomed to the demands of the tour.

Sonego has performed well on the Challengers and Futures circuits. A clay court specialist, Sonego was a qualifier at the Monte Carlo ATP Masters 1000 and had a good tournament making it to the quarter finals.

The highlight of his year though for the young Italian has been winning the ATP 250 on grass, in Antalya in Turkey right before Wimbledon.

Sonego has broken into the top 100 of the ATP rankings this year and this performance catapulted him to a career high number 45 in the world.

Nick Kyrgios v Lorenzo Sonego Predictions & Tips

After a thrilling week in the capital, Kyrgios will be hoping this week has all the ingredients to be another cracker for him. If the Aussie hits form this week, we can expect to see him perform at a very high level.

While Kyrgios can be expected to bring his histrionics with him, expect Sonego to look to continue to keep his focus that has resulted in him doing as well as he in the rankings and on the tour this year, still being relatively new.

When Kyrgios is playing, one can always expect an exciting and fun match on the cards. It is never easy to pick a winner in a Nick Kyrgios match, but expect the talented Aussie to make the second round with a straight sets win.

Tip: Kyrgios to win in straight sets: 8/11 (888Sport)
