Daniil Medvedev v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head

Daniil Medvedev currently leads the series having won both matches they played in Hamburg in 2016 and Marseille in 2017 in a deciding third set.

Medvedev Is A Man On A Mission

Daniil Medvedev has been a breath of fresh air in 2019. The tall Russian is on the cusp of earning a place at the prestigious season-ending Nitto ATP Finals in London if he can sustain his terrific form which has seen him rise to World No.8 (currently sixth on the ATP Race To London behind Tsitsipas).

Medvedev’s run on the North American hard-courts has been remarkable after picking up his 10th win in his last 12 matches following his straight sets win over France’s Benoit Paire in the second round. The two times he lost was to an in-form Nick Kyrgios in the Washington final and the defending champion Rafael Nadal in the Rogers Cup final respectively.

The man from Moscow has carried over where he left off last year when he won titles in Sydney, Winston-Salem and Tokyo and broke into the world’s top-20. While the title count in 2019 is not to match his 2018 exploits after only winning in Sofia in 2019, he has made a handful of finals and semifinals appearances.

Struff Delivered Upset Of Tournament So Far

Jan-Lennard Struff came off age as he stunned Stefanos Tsitsipas in a dramatic three-setter on Wednesday to record his fifth win in his past 10 matches against Top 10 opponents. The German overcame his recent wobble to win back-to-back matches for the first time since Wimbledon.

He struck 16 aces and won 85% of first-service points to improve his deciding set tie-break record to 8-2. The 29-year-old is already in the midst of registering his best season on the ATP tour after reaching the semifinal at the ASB Classic in Auckland and also at the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart.

With his giant-killing upset of the rising Greek star, Struff now improves to 28-19 match record for the season, and he will aim to beat Medvedev for the first time in the series.

Medvedev v Struff Predictions & Tips

Both Medvedev and Struff are capable of cracking up pace on serve and off the ground. They are equipped with excellent power from the forehand wing. But for the Russian this seems to come naturally and he is more of a counterpuncher who would happily sit back, absorb pressure and strike at the right moment. Struff is no slouch in terms of raw power, but Medvedev has a better all-round game to weather the German’s storm.

Tip: Medvedev win in straight sets : 11/10 (888Sport)
