Madison Keys v Svetlana Kuznetsova Head to Head

Keys holds a 3-0 lead over Kuznetsova, last defeating her in the 2016 China Open. All of their meetings have taken place on hard courts itself with Madison dominating on every occasion.

Keys Finds her Rhythm in Cincinnati

After having a relatively quiet season, World No. 18 Madison Keys rediscovered her form in the United States, just in time for the US Open. So far in the year, the 24-year-old has landed just one singles title from Charleston. Since then, she has spent most of her time struggling to move past the early rounds.

Keys incurred a litany of early-round defeats at the Wimbledon, Washington Open, and Rogers Cup last week before finding her rhythm in Cincinnati. In many ways, this run came as a surprise to a lot of spectators, especially given the results she has delivered.

Right from the first round, where she knocked out Garbine Muguruza, she moved on to defeat the likes of Daria Kasatkina, Simona Halep, and Venus Williams to make it to this stage. These big results are something that Keys is familiar with, given that over the course of her career, she has won four Premier level tournaments.

Most recently, she defeated Sofia Kenin in the semifinal in straight sets to set up this ultimate clash with Kuznetsova.

Kuznetsova, Back in the Fold

From visa issues to personal hurdles, Kuznetsova has been through a lot in the last fortnight. But now, on the back of her sensational performance in Cincinnati, she is back in the groove and has truly found her winning ways.

Her story is nothing short of a cinematic blockbuster, where she was forced to take more than six months off from the tour due to an injury. It wasn’t until April in Lugano that she returned to action and even then, it took her quite some time to rebuild her form.

Currently ranked at the No. 153 position, Kuznetsova first showed a glimpse of brilliance in Toronto last week, when she reached the third round. She built on that form further in the Western & Southern Open by defeating some big names. Starting with Anastasija Sevastova, she stormed past Dayana Yastremska, Sloane Stephens, Karolina Pliskova, and World No. 2 Ashleigh Barty in straight sets.

This level of maturity and play makes her a force to be reckoned with. Of course, through the years, she has won 18 singles titles and as a former top-five player herself, she is more than capable of pulling off a run like this.
