Cedric-Marcel in Quest to Find Pre-Injury Form

Cedric-Marcel reached a career-high 71 in February 2012 after raking up notable wins against Nikolay Davydenko & Fabio Fognini in the 2011 season. He followed it up with making his maiden Grand Slam appearance at the French Open 2012 as well as beating former World Number 1, Lleyton Hewit in the 2012 Davis Cup World Group Playoff deciding rubber.

A hip injury required him to go under the knife in 2013, and he struggled for fitness over the next two years only making a full return to tennis in 2015.

Again in 2017, Cedric-Marcel reached world number 76 on the back of two solid seasons before back to back wrist operations in 2018 halting his progress and resulting in only featuring in only two events last year.

The German dropped out of top 1000 rankings by the end of 2018, but since his return, he has performed steadily and reached the main draw at Wimbledon 2019. Currently ranked at 253, the German has a 4-9 record in 2019 with his only match on hard court resulting in a loss.

The left-hander will come in this match as the underdog and will be looking to give a good account of himself with the pressure off his shoulders.

Gunneswaran v Stebe Predictions & Tips

Both the players are left-handers with a two-handed backhand and rely more on staying at the baseline and grinding out the points, it is likely to be a cagey affair, but we expect Gunneswaran to come through it in three sets.

Tip: Gunneswaran to win in three sets: 3/1 (888Sport)
