In their one and only encounter in the 2014 Mexican Open, Barty sailed to the victory in three sets.
A Shaky Start for the Aussie
Starting as the number two seed in this year’s US Open, Ash Barty got off to a shaky start against the Kazakh Zarina Diyas. The match lasted for three sets which saw the reigning French Open champion lose the first set before staging a comeback. In the end, she won the match 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
At the same time, that rocky performance is no reason to doubt Barty’s form and momentum, at least just yet. With a win-loss tally of 42-8 and back to back breathtaking runs in many big events, the 23-year-old has truly impressed a lot of spectators on the tour.
Barty is also one of the few players this season to have won a title on pretty much every surface. With the Miami Open and Birmingham Classic crowns already to her name, she has set a feat of astonishing personal records. Even her losses, while minimal, have mostly come at the hands of in-form, top players.
A Tough Match for Davis
The 25-year-old Lauren Davis holds a win-loss tally of 30-15. Playing in a mix of ITF and WTA events, she has found some success in the former as she reached the final on a couple of occasions.
However, on the WTA Tour, her form has been quite the opposite. With a litany of defeats in the early rounds, Davis hasn’t really found herself with a breakthrough performance. The best she has done is reaching the quarterfinal in Washington and the second round at the SW19.
In Flushing Meadows, she defeated the Swedish qualifier, Johanna Larsson in the opener in straight sets.
Barty v Davis Predictions & Tips
This will be an easy match for Barty. Given her form, momentum, and the winning experience, she should be able to dispatch Davis in straight sets. No surprises to be expected here. At the most, Davis can snatch a few games off her Australian adversary.
