Looking for a run similar to the one she had at the Wimbledon this season, Simona Halep arrived in New York with some determination and confidence. But at the same time, Halep has looked really comfortable and fit throughout this season. The 23-year-old Taylor Townsend hasn’t been that active on the tour this year. Currently ranked World No. 93, has last two tournaments have been the Wimbledon and French Open, where she lost in the opening rounds.
On the whole, she has featured in a mix of WTA and ITF events with some success in the latter. However, she is yet to have a run that truly establishes as a formidable force on the circuit. With a win-loss tally of 18-12, she has a long way to go as a player.
In the US Open, she qualified for the main draw after slogging through the qualifiers. In the opener, she moved past Kateryna Kozlova in three sets.
