Third seeded Roger Federer will open the day’s proceedings with his third round match against Great Britain’s Daniel Evans as he looks to overcome his poor starts in the first two rounds. Against both, Sumit Nagal and Damir Dzumhur, Federer lost his first set before settling in to better rhythm and he would want to shrug that off quickly against Evans.

Following Federer on the Arthur Ashe Stadium will be Serena Williams, seeded eighth in the competition and much like the Swiss maestro, she had lost the first set of her second round match as well. Serena will hope she can get back to her best as she takes on Karolina Muchova for a place in the round of 16.

The evening session at Arthur Ashe Stadium will begin with 20th seeded rising star Sofia Kenin playing Madison Keys, seeded 10th in an all-American clash. Keys has been a runner-up in this competition and entered this tournament with a title win at Cincinnati which makes her a heavy favourite in this one.

Last on court will be the top seeded Novak Djokovic who goes up against Denis Kudla in what should be a routine third round encounter. However, Djokovic had had a shoulder issue in the lead-up to the US Open that looked aggravated in his second round match. Can Kudla take advantage of any loss of rhythm as a result of that?

Over at the Louis Armstrong Stadium, the third seeded Karolina Pliskova should not have a lot of difficulties in getting past Ons Jabeur, before the second seeded Ash Barty faces Maria Sakkari for her third round match.

This will be followed by Stan Wawrinka facing Paolo Lorenzi, in which should be a straightforward win for the Swiss, before Ukrainians Elina Svitolina and Dayana Yastremska go head to head in their match.

Fifth seeded Daniil Medvedev takes on Feliciano Lopez, sevenths seeded Kei Nishikori faces Alex de Minaur and Johanna Konta will be up against Shuai Zhang in some of the other matches, while Qiang Wang clashes with Fiona Ferro, Nikoloz Basilashvili faces Dominik Koepfer, Pablo Carreno Busta will be up against David Goffin and Grigor Dimitrov plays Kamil Majchrzak in their respective third round matches.
