Grigor Dimitrov v Alex de Minaur Head to Head

The two players have never met on the ATP tour and this is their first ever meeting.

Dimitrov Looking For Confidence Boosting Week Two

2017 was a promising year for Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, with him winning his first Masters 1000 at Cincinnati as well as the ATP Tour Finals in London and being ranked number three in the world.

He began 2018 as a strong contender at the Australian Open, but lost in the quarter-finals. His season continued to dip further with several sub-par performances resulting in him dropping out of the top 20.

The trend worsened in 2019 with the Bulgarian struggling to get past the early rounds at tournaments and losing matches from being in commanding positions. He is currently ranked number 78 in the world.

With a strong serve, an elegant single handed backhand and great athleticism, the former world number three has a playing style similar to Roger Federer and often been referred to as ‘Baby Federer’, and hailed as a Future Gran Slam winner.

Dimitrov’s US Open started with minimal exceptions but a lucky walkover against Borna Coric and some other results going in his favor have seen him into the round of 16.

Rising Aussie in Breakthrough Slam

20-year-old Aussie Alex de Minaur sprung onto the scene with convincing performances in Sydney and Auckland prior to the Australian Open in 2018.

Under the close mentoring of Aussie Lleyton Hewitt, the young Aussie has been earmarked for greater things in the sport since he was a teenager. However, de Minaur met with injuries which impeded his progress along the tour.

The young Aussie made his comeback this summer winning the ATP 250 in Atlanta at the start of the North American hard court season, and is currently ranked within the top 40 in the world.

De Minaur has had a good Australian Open thus far, defeating young Chilean Cristain Garin and Kei Nishikori.

Grigor Dimitrov v Alex de Minaur Predictions & Tips

This promises to be an exciting match, with Dimitrov desperately looking to make a major quarter final again and be back in the reckoning.

De Minaur on the other hand will hope to breakthrough into quarter- finals of a major for the first time at the young age of 20.

The factors that will determine the outcome of the match are how well De Minaur can recover emotionally and physically from the Nishikori victory, and how Dimitrov handles his first potentially competitive opponent.

Expect some exciting play, and an even match, where the experience of Dimitrov should see him through in a potential five-setter.
