Bianca Andreescu v Elise Mertens Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two players on the circuit.

Andreescu, Showing No Signs of Slowing Down

At just 19 years of age, Bianca Andreescu has established a litany of feats and records which make her worthy to be compared with the likes of Serena Williams, Martina Hingis, Simona Halep, and other great giants. With a win-loss tally of 38-4 this season, it is hard to imagine the last time that she actually lost a match on the tour.

The Canadian started the season ranked in the early 150s and now, she is World No. 15. She achieved this astonishing feat by winning the Indian Wells Open and Canadian Open, in addition to reaching the final in Auckland. At the moment, she is on an incredible winning streak.

She took a pause in the mid-season due to a shoulder injury and missed out on the clay and grass swing, as a result. But when she returned, it was as if nothing had changed and it was business as usual for her.

Given her form, it isn’t that surprising to see her reach this far in the US Open. Her victims include the likes of Taylor Townsend, Caroline Wozniacki, and Kirsten Flipkens – a list that seems nothing in comparison to the top players that she has defeated over the course of the season.

Mertens, Looking to Capitalize on her Form

After struggling with her form and consistency for most of the season, it appears that Elise Mertens has finally found her bearings. The winner of the Qatar Open moved on to lose early in a majority of the tournaments and as a result, has stayed out of the top 20 for most of the part.

But that is set to change now, given her remarkable run in the Flushing Meadows. Undoubtedly her best run here, she has made it this far after defeating the likes of Krystina Pliskova, Andrea Petkovic, and Kristie Ahn.

Clearly, she has also benefited from an easy bracket after early defeats of Petra Kvitova and Sloane Stephens. Mertens is a top 20 player who peaked at World No. 12 last season after a pretty good, consistent performance. But after spending a majority of this season on the sidelines, she is now set to stage a comeback.

Andreescu v Mertens Tips & Predictions

Andreescu’s last major defeat came in the Miami Open, which wasn’t a defeat as much as her retiring from the game due to an injury. Given her form at the moment, it will be quite difficult for Mertens to bag a win here. Nonetheless, being the more experienced among the two, she can subdue the Canadian if she starts strong. All in all, this is a brilliant tie where Andreescu will start as the favourite.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 19/20 (888Sport)
