Wang Yafan v Nina Stojanovic Preview:

China’s Wang Yafan will take on Serbian Nina Stojanovic in their first round match and this will be their second meeting. The first time they played was in 2016 and Stojanovic had won that one but a lot has changed since. Yafan has moved into the top 50 of the ranking by winning a title at the Acapulco Open earlier this while Stojanovic has has been restricted by ranking to play in only lower-level tournaments.

This is why it’s slightly surprising that Yafan is rather long odds at 16/25 to win this and we believe that’s a good entry point, despite back to back first round losses at the New York Open and the US Open.

Yafan v Stojanvic Tip: Yafan to win: 16/25 (888Sport)

Elena Rybakina v Ankita Raina Preview:

It’s bit of a match of unequals, with the 69th-ranked Rybakina taking on India’s Ankita Raina. The 20-year-old Rybakina hasn’t always been featuring in the top tournaments in the world this year but has a win-loss record of 45-16, which is brilliant and reflects in her ranking of 69.

On the other hand, Raina failed to qualify for the US Open, and has generally found it tough this season. In fact, except for the Nottingham Open, she hasn’t made it to the main draw and even in that tournament, she lost her opener. Sounds like an easy win for Rybakina to us.

Rybakina v Raina Tip: Rybakina to win 2-0: 4/7 (888Sport)

Shuai Zhang v Aleksandra Krunic Preview:

Top seeded Shuai Zhang will face Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic in her first round match in what will be their second meeting. They have previously played once before this, with Zhang having needed three sets to overcome Krunic in the final of the Guangzhou Open.

Interestingly, that victory led to the second of her WTA titles, having earlier won the same tournament four years earlier in 2013. On the other hand, Krunic went on to play in another final since that defeat and won the Rosmalen Championship on grass in 2018.

This year, however, Krunic has had an abysmal time, losing 20 of her 30 matches, with a 1-7 record on hard courts. Can she turn things around against the world number 34, who is coming off a third round appearance at the US Open? Highly doubtful.

Zhang v Krunic Tip: Zhang to win 2-0: 22/25 (888Sport)

Stefanie Voegele v Kristyna Pliskova Preview:

Three previous matches between them have resulted in a 2-1 win-loss record in favour of Pliskova but to put that in perspective, the last of those matches came in 2014. Today, Voegele is ranked 115th in the world to Pliskova’s 86th, but this year’s record has been equally poor for both.

However, the different in the odds offered for their respective wins is rather surprising – Pliskova is rather short odds at 1/2 to win as opposed to 9/5 for a Voegele victory. This is why a games handicap on a Voegele win allows us a good chance to win us a few.

Voegele v Pliskova Tip: Games Handicap Voegele +4: 83/100 (888Sport)
