Caroline Garcia v Kiki Mladenovic Preview:

In a clash of French women, Caroline Garcia and Kiki Mladenovic meet in the second round of the Zhengzhou Open. The players have met twice and shared fortunes with either player winning once. Most recently, they met at Rome earlier this year with Mladenovic winning in straight sets.

Mladenovic, despite falling in the WTA rankings has been in decent form of late, making the quarter-finals of the Citi Open and defeating Angelique Kerber in the opening match of the US Open. She began with a good straight sets win here as well and looks to have carried over her doubles form into the singles game as well.

On the other hand, Caroline Garcia has had a tough run this summer as she has only won three matches since Wimbledon, meeting little success on the North American hard courts and losing in the first round of the US Open. Her first round match here was more challenging than needed with her being pushed to a final set against a little known qualifier.

Expect a good match ahead and tennis would be well served with a return to form for Garcia, but Mladenovic can be expected to pull through in two tight sets.

Garcia v Mlaenovic Tip: Mladenovic to win in two sets: 1/1 (888Sport)

Karolina Pliskova v Polona Hercog Preview:

Czech world number two plays Slovenian Polona Hercog for the sixth time in their careers at the Zhengzhou Open, in the second round. Pliskova brings a 4-1 head-to-head into the match and except a tight three-setter in Beijing in 2014, she has dominated the matchup. All their meetings have been on hard court and seems to have suited Pliskova well.

Karoline Pliskova is a former world number one and has currently moved back up to number two after the US Open. However, she has had an inconsistent season, underperforming at the majors after an Australian Open semi-final run which involved her defeating Serena Williams. While she was able to carry the momentum to Dubai and Indian Wells, her season has been disappointing since the start of the clay season and never really recovered consistently.

Polona Hercog has been on the tour for most of the decade, and while she showed a lot of promise in her early years on the tour, her career went off track in 2016-2017 with injuries and losses on the court. She has returned stronger to the tour and this season has seen her move back to within the top 50 in the world, as well as make a round of 32 run at both Wimbledon and the French Open.

She has talked about aiming at being a more consistent performer on the tour, but that remains to be seen. Expect Pliskova to outplay Hercog in straight sets.

Pliskova v Hercog Tip: Pliskova to win 2-0: 5/6 (888Sport)
