Daniil Medvedev v Egor Gerasimov Head to Head

The pair have met once before on the senior ATP tour in Tokyo last year, with Medvedev coming from a set down to win.

Medvedev Eyeing Title Number Three of The Year

World number four Medvedev is in the form of his life. Incredibly, if he wins this match on Saturday, he will be in his fifth final in consecutive tournaments, after a hugely successful American hard court season, which saw him win the biggest title of his career to date, the Cincinnati Masters, and reach the US Open final, where he bravely went down to Rafael Nadal.

Already hot favourite to win this event, things have fallen his way, with the elimination of the two biggest rivals to win the title, compatriot and friend Karen Khachanov on Thursday, and Matteo Berrettini of Italy at the hands of Gerasimov on Friday.

Medvedev was made to work hard for his victory over fellow Russian Andrey Rublev on Friday night in the quarter final, coming back from a break down in the second set, but will now be hugely confident of progressing on Saturday to yet another final.

Gerasimov, Unprecedented Success in Russia

For the man ranked 129 in the world at the start of this week to find himself in the semi-final of this event is a huge and welcome surprise for the man from Belarus, who is more used to the junior ITF circuit, and scrabbling around in qualifying tournaments.

He did manage to qualify for the last three majors of this year – in Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and Flushing Meadows – and won his first ever Grand Slam match in New York last month, but his achievement this week eclipses anything he has done in his career to date.

Gerasimov got here by beating Lukas Rosel of the Czech republic in the first round, and then notching up an impressive straight sets win over the experienced French player, Adrian Mannarino, in the second.

However, it was his quarter-final win over the US Open semi-finalist and world number 13, Matteo Berrettini of Italy, on Friday that really catches the eye, defeating the number three seed in straight sets, courtesy of two tie breaks.

Medvedev v Gerasimov Predictions & Tips

Medvedev is the overwhelming favourite to win this match at 2/5, whilst Gerasimov is at 7/2. Gerasimov has had an excellent run this week, but the stars seemed aligned in favour of Medvedev, and he should make his fifth consecutive final on Sunday.

Tip: Medvedev to win in straight sets: 5/7 (888Sport)
