Aryna Sabalenka v Danielle Collins Head to Head

In their one and only encounter on the tour, in the 2018 US Open, Sabalenka defeated Collins in three sets and currently leads the American by 1-0.

Collins, with a Commanding Start

The 25-year-old American Danielle Collins has had the best of the start to her Asian swing. Playing in her first event since the US Open, Collins faced her compatriot Venus Williams in the opener and defeated the veteran, former World No. 1 player with 7-5, 7-6(5).

Despite a lack of showing in her last several tournaments, the American has shown glimpses of her brilliance and is more than capable of facing the top guns on equal footing. For instance, she reached the semifinal in the Australian Open where she defeated the likes of Caroline Garcia, Angelique Kerber, and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Then, Charleston, she reached the quarterfinal. However, Collins hasn’t really been able to get a grip on her consistency as she succumbed in the early rounds in a majority of the tournaments through the last few months. Case in point, she lost to Caroline Wozniacki in New York in the second round.

Sabalenka, the Defending Champion

Wuhan Open is a special tournament for the young Belarusian as this is where she truly rose to prominence last season. This is her biggest singles title on the circuit and that winning run put her on the map of the tennis circuit.

This time, her chances, although stiff, are favourable on account of her recent form. Fresh off her US Open doubles title with Elise Mertens, Sabalenka is sailing high on confidence and will be hoping to replicate that success all through the Asian swing.

The San Jose Open runner-up played in Shenzhen last week where she lost to Petra Martic in the third round. These kinds of results have marked most of her reason and now, Aryna will look to improve her statistics as we approach the end of the 2019 WTA Tour.

So far, things have gone according to the plan for her as she defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the opener in Wuhan with 6-1, 6-2.

Sabalenka v Collins Tips & Predictions

Sabalenka will start this match as the favourite to win but it won’t be an easy game for her. Collins is a fierce opponent and on her best day, she can make life extremely difficult for the Belarusian. At the same time, the two players are fairly aggressive and this will be an entertaining affair.
