Tennis News Today: Norrie Advances, Edmund Crashes

Felix Auger-Aliassime v Cameron Norrie live streaming, predictions ATP Los Cabos 2022

Cameron Norrie had no issues winning his first round match at the 2019 Zhuhai Open but there was no such luck for Kyle Edmund at Chengdu.

British player and world number 68, Norrie, was featuring in his first match since the US Open last month and defeated Peter Gojowczyk in his opener at the 2019 Zhuhai Championships.

In doing so, Norrie stalled a three-match losing streak that began with his defeat at the Montreal Masters. Earlier, Norrie had made it to the semi-final at the Atlanta Open but since then is yet to win two matches in a row in any competition.

Norrie will now play the third seeded Gael Monfils in the second round, an opponent against whom he’s played once before this and lost. That defeat came at the 2017 Eastbourne Open.

It was even worse for British number one Edmund who crashed out of the Chengdu Open in the opening round. Edmund lost to Cristian Garin 3-6, 2-6 to make it four losses in a row now. Coincidentally, his run of defeats also began in the second round at Montreal and has seen him go down in the opening rounds at Cincinnati and US Open before this.

Two other Brits, Andy Murray and Dan Evans will take to court in the competitions. Evans faces wildcard Bai Yan in his opening round match at Chengdu while Murray will look to take another step towards his comeback with an opener against Tennys Sandgren at Zhuhai.
