Grigor Dimitrov v Alexander Bublik Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 28-year old Bulgarian, and Bublik, six years his junior.

Dimitrov, Continuing to Recover His Form in Chengdu

Having won the ATP finals in London at the end of 2017, and reached a career high of world number three, Dimitrov, burdened by loss of form and inconsistency, tumbled down the world rankings, and has only recently arrested that decline, starting to become once more the sort of player that challenges for titles, and features in the later stages of Grand Slam events.

The catalyst for that change was his performance at the US Open, where he reached the semi-finals, despite starting the tournament ranked as low as 68. He is now looking to build on that new-found form in Chengdu, and begun his campaign on Thursday in winning style, with a comfortable second round defeat of Dan Evans of Great Britain in straight sets.

Bublik Continues Upward Progression in China

22-year old Bublik is a Russian-born player who has chosen to represent Kazakhstan instead. A regular on the ITF and Challenger tours, he has already won three tournaments this year at that level – In Budapest, Pau, and Monterrey.

On the senior tour he reached his first final in July, losing the Hall of Fame Open to John Isner, in Newport, Rhode Island. He also won his first ever match at a Grand Slam, reaching the second round of the French Open.

Now ranked 71 in the world, he had an impressive first round victory on Wednesday over the number six seed, Taylor Fritz,  beating the American in three sets. He then followed that up on Thursday with a straight sets win over the experienced Australian pro, Jordan Thompson.

Dimitrov v Bublik Predictions & Tips

Dimitrov is the odds-on favourite to win this match at 1/3, whilst Bublik is 27/10. Whilst Bublik has done well to get this far, Dimitrov will want to continue his run in Chengdu as long as possible, as he looks to build on the momentum he gained from his performances at the US Open. If he plays near to his best, he should win.

Tip: Dimitrov to win in straight sets: 5/6 (888Sport)
