Borna Coric v Taro Daniel Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 22-year old Croat, and the 26 year old American-born Japanese.

Coric, Progressing Again After Injury Setbacks

World number 14 Coric began the year well. He reached the fourth round in Melbourne, the semi-finals in Dubai and s-Hertogenbosch, and the quarter finals in Miami and Monte Carlo.

However, injury then halted his progress. He was forced to pull out of Halle, missed Wimbledon altogether, and then withdraw before his second round match at Flushing Meadows.

However, he returned to the court in St. Petersburg, and got all the way to the final before he was beaten by Daniil Medvedev. Then last week he got to the quarter finals at the Zhuhai Championships, before losing to Alex Minaur of Australia.

He may not be back to his best yet, but he is showing signs of starting to do so.

Daniel, Disappointing Year for Japanese Player

Daniel is now outside the world’s top 100, having been as ranked as high at 64 this time last year. He has won one senior ATP title, the 2018 Istanbul Open, and has also won five Challenger tour events, the most recent of which came in Tigre, Argentina in 2017.

2019 has been a disappointment for him, however, with his best runs in tournaments coming in Marrakech and Geneva, where he reached the quarter-finals of both events.

However, he will be keen to put on a good show against one of the world’s top players in front of his home fans.

Coric v Daniel Predictions & Tips

Coric is the clear odds-on favourite to win this match at 1/4, whilst Daniel is priced at 38/11. Doubtless Daniel will enjoy passionate home support but there is very little in his recent form to suggest he can cause an upset. The Croat for his part will be looking to continue his recent momentum, with another good run in Japan.

Tip: Coric to win in  straight sets: 4/6 (888Sport)
