Naomi Osaka v Bianca Andreescu Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two players on the tour.

Andreescu, Still Going Strong

With a win-loss tally of 45-4 and fresh off her US Open title run where she defeated Serena Williams in the final, the 19-year-old Bianca Andreescu has had a season to be truly proud of. At the start of the year, she was outside the top 150 and now, she is World No. 6 – a feat that took her just 10 months to achieve.

What’s even more intriguing is her ability to continue with the same traction, despite taking a few months off the tour due to a shoulder injury. While many players would have had to deal with an abrupt loss in form, Andreescu was entirely in a different plane altogether. Even though she was inactive during the grass swing and clay swing, she came all guns blazing in the US Open series.

She conquered the Rogers Cup, Flushing Meadows, and now, she looks primed to conquer Beijing as well. Starting as number five seed, she has so far moved past the likes of Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Elise Mertens, and Jennifer Brady without any hesitancy. It isn’t surprising, given that she has had a long rest before arriving in China.

Osaka, Facing an Opponent Much Like Her

This is going to be a demanding match for Naomi Osaka, physically and mentally. She is facing a player who has scaled great heights in a short period of time, much like herself. But more than that, Osaka’s recent tryst with her forms will make her particularly vulnerable for this fixture.

Despite putting up a consistent performance on the tour, it wasn’t until a few weeks back that Osaka won her first title since the Australian Open. It was the Pan Pacific Open in Japan which saw her defeat the likes of Mertens and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. But up until that point, Osaka has had to deal with a litany of exits in the penultimate rounds of several tournaments.

Nonetheless, that kind of consistency did help her stay afloat in the top five. Now, with the help of a promising run in the China Open, she can hope to retain that spot for a longer time. She has had a pretty comfortable run in Beijing as she moved past Jessica Pegula, Andrea Petkovic, and Alison Riske.

Andreescu v Osaka Tips & Predictions

Expect three sets in this match. This is undoubtedly one of the most entertaining fixtures of the season and quite possibly, the start of a rivalry that we will see for ages to come.
