Stefanos Tsitsipas v Hubert Hurkacz Head to Head

The pair have met four times before, with Tsitsipas leading their head-to-head series by three matches to one. The Greek won their first three encounters – at the NextGen finals in 2018, and in Marseille and Dubai earlier this year. However, it was the Pole who won their most recent match, at the Rogers Cup in July.

Tsitsipas Ends Losing Streak Against Auger-Aliassime

21-year-old Tsitsipas, who reached the final last week in Beijing, is looking to carry that form over into this week.

Now firmly established as a top ten player, having reached the semi-final in Melbourne, won two titles in Marseille and Estoril, and made his maiden Masters final in Madrid before losing to Novak Djokovic, he had, however, endured a mid-season slump.

That saw him go out in the first round stage at both Wimbledon and Flushing Meadows, and suffer early defeats in Montreal and Zhuhai.

He demonstrated on Wednesday that he is getting back to his best by beating Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada, his nearest challenger in the NextGen Finals Race to Milan standings, and a man he had never beaten before, in straight sets in their second round match.

Hurkacz Won Maiden Senior Title in 2019

22-year-old Hurkacz has had a good year, breaking into the world’s top forty for the first time.

In the early part of the season, despite winning the Challenger event in Canberra in January, he was best-known for his high profile wins against top players – he beat Kei Nishikori in Dubai and Indian Wells, and Dominic Thiem. However, he was then unable to translate those victories into sustained runs at events, quarter-finals in Dubai and Eastbourne the best he had to show for his efforts.

All that changed, though, at Winston-Salem in August, where, despite being unseeded, he went through the field to win his first senior ATP title, beating Frances Tiafoe, Denis Shapovalov, and Benoit Paire in the process.

In Shanghai, having beaten local Chinese player Zhang Zhizhen in the first round, he had another signature win against a higher ranked player in the second, played on Tuesday, knocking out the number nine seed, Gael Monfils, in straight sets.

Tsitsipas v Hurkacz Predictions & Tips

Tsitsipas is the odds-on favourite to win this match at 7/15, whilst Hurkacz is priced at 2/1. The Pole may have one the last meeting between these two, but the Greek has generally had the edge in their previous encounters and, with signs that he is getting back to his best form again, he should make the quarter-finals.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets: 6/5 (888Sport)
