Karen Khachanov v Philipp Kohlschreiber Head to Head

Khachanov and Kohlschreiber have played each other four times, and surprisingly it is the 35-year-old German who leads the series 3-1 having won the last three matches on the trot.

Khachanov’s solitary win came in the very first meeting between the pair on the clay of Kitzbuhel in 2016.

Khachanov Seeking Late Season Push

Exactly twelve months ago, the VTB Kremlin Cup was the scene of Karen Khachanov’s rise to a Top 10 player. The power-hitting Russian beat France’s Adrian Mannarino handily to claim his third ATP tour title of his burgeoning career, and it was only a few weeks later on the indoor hard courts of Paris Bercy that Khachanov announced himself to the tennis world proper, when he defeated World No.1 Novak Djokovic to capture his maiden Masters 1000 crown.

Not since Bercy has Khachanov tasted success on the tour. That remained his last title win on the mainstream and he will return to Moscow this week with one eye on the prize ahead of his title defense in the French capital later this month.

Khachanov will look to salvage whatever is left of the remaining part of the regular ATP season and the two weeks between now and the end of October will be vital for his ranking status. Should he lose early at the Kremlin Cup and Bercy, he could leave the Top 20

Kohlschreiber Buoyed To Maintain Winning Record

Philipp Kohlschreiber may not have been a regular on the ATP tour this season, but he seems to be a thorn in Khachanov’s game.

The German has won the last three meetings in three sets including one on the indoor hard courts of Rotterdam in 2018. The 35-year-old who is hoping to represent his country at next year’s Olympics in Tokyo is also inching closer to 500 match wins on tour – a figure not many players can boast about.

However, his form has tailed off and it is no surprise to see him drop down the Challengers to build-on on results and form in an effort to re-enter in the Top 50 next year.

Khachanov v Kohlschreiber Predictions & Tips

The head-to-head on paper between these two players is slightly surprising considering that Khachanov is a Top 10 player. But the Russian hasn’t played any level of tennis that merits his ranking and he has suffered some shocking defeats this year. However, Kohlschreiber hasn’t fared any decently on the main tour this year and this could be a big plus for second seed.

Tip: Khachanov to win in straight sets: 10/11 (888Sport)
